Shimelle

It’s been forever since I blogged! Life happens as they say and it certainly has for me. It’s been quite some time since I scrapped too. I’ve done a few cards here and there, but nothing substantial unfortunately. That’s my goal – get back into it whenever I have some free time. That’s the trick isn’t it…free time? Well, I’ve decided to do Shimelle’s Learn Something New Everyday online class on the blog, so let’s see how that goes! Technically it was a class that went through September, but since that was a hugely crazy month for me, I’m doing it this month. The thing that I completely love about Shimelle’s classes is that once you buy them, you have lifetime access to them on her website! Many of them repeat every year, so your access includes all future years classes too. Thanks Shimelle, that’s so super cool!

For this class, what I write about today, happened yesterday in most cases. I’ll include pictures when possible, factoids or just something I remembered as making me smile.

LSNED

The Toronto’s CN Tower’s Glass Floor was the world’s first when it opened on June 26, 1994. It is 256 square feet of solid glass and is five times stronger than the required weight bearing standard for commercial floors.

There’s this new blogging event thing that Shimelle is starting called “10 things”. It looks like fun and I couldn’t resist joining in!

On the 10th of the month you’ll find a list here from me about some 10 things. :)

To start it off, I’ll make a list using one of the latest cards that I made that I really am happy with! It’s a new Ippity Stamps set called New Season, New Wonder. A super cute and versatile 6 image set that is all fruity! Take a peek:

Now my 10 Things list on why I love this card:

  1. the colors! so spring-y and bright!
  2. the stamp images themselves, so cool! Love that distressed look
  3. I used clear heat embossing powder on the fruit
  4. that cute mini gingham bow is so cute!
  5. gotta love those Mojo Monday sketches!
  6. gotta love My Mind’s Eye patterned paper!
  7. Spellbinders dies are indispensable
  8. I used paper scraps, woohoo!
  9. it’s easy to duplicate
  10. because it is just plain SWEET!!

Debby Schuh made a visit to the local scrapbook store a couple years ago and I took a cute class of hers. We did some mixed media work to create a mini album using mostly Cosmo Cricket products. It turned out super cute! I’m holding the album in the picture. I have no idea why I had my head like that, but oh well!

4×6 Photo Love online class by Shimelle at Two Peas

I was able to visit the back woods of Kentucky a couple of years ago when I was working with P K Glitz. Janelle and Jim, co-owners, have a beautiful old B&B right by the rail tracks. It was a really fun visit with a great chance to feel cool weather and see the leaves change.

This layout is for Shimelle’s 4×6 Photo class at 2Peas. I was SO excited to use some super old supplies that were just too good to throw out! It felt great to use up some stash!

and getting ready for Halloween! I used one of Michelle Perkett’s faeries offered at Faerie Song Artstamps to make this Halloween-ish card. It’s Glenda the Good Witch! :)

The card layout was inspired by Shimelle’s weekend crop, thanks Shimelle!

Part of Shimelle’s instructions include Photoshop tutorials on Saturdays! I totally love how she puts the steps down so easy to understand and do.

I used one of our recent lessons – how to make something aged. Doesn’t this lifeguard hut look ancient? I LOVE this effect! Thanks again for the terrific instructions Shimelle!

This assignment from Shimelle’s class was to go to one of your favorite spots and take a bunch of photos. I tried out some of the photo taking ideas that I’ve learned from the Love Your Pictures, Love Your Pages class. Basically how to use the settings on your camera more to your advantage.

The large top photo was done using the stitch assist option on the camera. Looks pretty cool! I just love taking pictures of the sunrise at the beach – only a mile from my house. I am truly lucky to live so close, one lucky thing that I try not to take for granted. The morning was beautiful as the sun peeked above the clouds to light up the world.

The letters were done by cutting self-adhesive foam from Sizzix dies. Super easy. Buy those self-adhesive foam sheets at the craft store when they’re on sale, no matter what the color is. The blue used in this page was white originally that I painted blue to match the surfboards. Paint first then cut – works just fine!
