There are so many great winter digital stamps out there that it’s hard to pick! I’m partial to Michelle Perkett’s stamps (ok, I’m on her DT, but there is a very good reason for that – I LOVE her stamps!) for their great detail and whimsiness!

There’s a challenge going on at Michelle’s Challenge blog. It’s to use a holiday stamp from Michelle! Easy to do for sure! Don’t forget to enter – you have until Monday afternoon.

I’ll be showing you 3 different ones today that I’ve colored with glitter! Yes, you can color with glitter! All you need is an adhesive to hold the glitter and acetate.

Here are the steps:

Select digital stamp

Print it on acetate. I use laser printer transparencies from Home Depot.

Select glitter colors and get them out ready to use.

Open a bottle of Crystal Lacquer and attach needle tip.

Usually it is best to “color” on the dull side of the print. If there is writing in the image, you can print a in “mirror” like a t-shirt print. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, but if there are large solid areas that are black, it will look dull from the printing. When turned over, the printing looks really sharp and detailed. Your choice.

“Color” areas with the Crystal Lacquer that you would like to use the darkest glitters colors on first. Through experience, I’ve found dark to light works the best.

Sprinkle on 1st glitter color and shake off excess. Tap back into the jar, coffee filter, glitter tray – whatever works for you.

Repeat until the image is colored in.

Set aside to dry in a safe place, lacquer up (like away from prying paws or excess fan breeze).

After you add each glitter color, flip the image over and see what it looks like. If you happen to go out of the lines (we all do, it’s ok), use needle tip tweezers or some other pointy object to nudge the glitter and lacquer back into the right spots. Try to do this very soon after adding the glitter as it hasn’t dried yet and is easy to move.

So you’ve got this beautiful glittery image, how do you attach it to your project? There are many ways!

Dot some Crystal Lacquer on the back of the dried glitter areas on the image. Be careful as the lacquer spreads very easy and you don’t want extra lacquer peeking out from behind your image!

Mini Glue Dots

Staples

Eyelets

Brads

Double-sided tape then hide from the front with a paper flap or other embellishment

Decorative corners that the trimmed image can get tucked under to be secured

Stitch it down

Ok, are you ready to see her? A lot of the mumbo jumbo above will make sense when you see the card. Remember to click on the card to see a larger version of it for the detail.

I am using another beautiful BasicGrey line – Porcelain. Isn’t it gorgeous for this month? I went to England, so it fit the quaint, older feel that I was looking for to match the pictures. It was a great trip!

I included some cool stamping using Ippity Stamps! I stamped on the patterned paper and over the sticker letters then highlighted them with glitter. LOVE how it came out. Don’t forget that I sell Ippity Stamps!

Heat embossing is one of my favorite things to do with a rubber stamp. Stephanie at The Stamps of Life has some truly great solid stamps for that. LOVE IT!

For this card, the pumpkin was heat embossed with P K Glitz E P Max. That is embossing powder pumped full of awesome glitter! When the image is heated, the powder seals in the glitter so it totally stays put while giving this great sparkle. Really neat stuff!

The words are heat embossed also but with regular powder. The strip of green sparkle is Sticky Tape with glitter on it. Oh, and isn’t that punched bat border just too cute?? Can’t beat off-season sales! I think I got that punch in March or something on a clearance rack for like $3! Yipppeeee!!!

Today was one of those days that Prickley Pear was perfect for my projects!

This card was fun to create since I combined heat embossing with dry embossing. The orange panel is vellum dry embossed then colored with Copics on the back for a stained glass effect. The stamped image is by Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps and heat embossed using 2 different colors of embossing powder. The image is stamped once then sprinkled with one color in one area first, then the 2nd color is added after shaking off any excess of the first powder. A fun effect especially when an image is perfect for it like this one.

For the card shown below, I’ve used selective coloring to match the colors in the paper. The bright pink and chocolate tones really made the detail pop in this image. Using a die cut floral border coated with P K Glitz glitter really adds a nice touch.

This image, Bird with Floral Trail, is wonderful for card making. It’s a great size for the front of a card. I’ve heat embossed it here with P K Glitz embossing powder for a little extra dimension.
