Scraps of thoughts, photos and art

ATC

I met up with the ATC Oasis Club this past weekend and we had a blast chatting while having lunch and trading cards. I managed to create May, June and July’s Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) and we’ll trade them in our next gathering in September.

I thought you might like to see them! I’ll be working on August and September to be current at the next meeting, so those will be coming within the month or so.

Artist Trading Cards (ATC), ah yes, those little pieces of art! I recently got some great background and backs for ATC’s from Lost Coast Designs Stamps. Thanks to the Spring Virtual Convention on Rubber Stamp Chat, I got a great deal on them with free shipping! Thanks to Linda for the sale and prompt service!

I haven’t used them yet, hahahaha, gotcha! I used some stamps from Starving Artistamps and Faerie Song Stamps to create my Mardi Gras beauty. I double embossed the background with the gem bezels and harlequin. I stamped and embossed the gems first then stamped and embossed over them with the harlequin pattern in a different color. Neat effect isn’t it?

My ATC (Artist Trading Card) Club just met over the weekend. It was a great time! I did unfortunately wait until the last minute to make my ATC’s. The usual suspects for delaying – work, fighting a sinus infection, other commitments, yada yada yada. Oh, Stampfest was in there too.

ATC’s are 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ pieces of art. Try them sometime, they’re addicting!!

BUT, I did successfully complete them! I like one of them a lot and the other, so-s0. Oh well, that’s how it goes right?

We decided on the rest of our themes for the year – love that! Now I can do them as I have time or supplies. We meet in April next, so I’ll have a couple months to work on 2 batches. Should be able to do that!

Anyway, here are the gems! February’s theme was “Famous Couples” and March was “Recycle”.

There’s a group of us that meet at the LSS to exchange Artist Trading Cards (ATCs), usually every other month. We met this past weekend and what great themes we had! We exchanged for November, December and January due to the holidays.

November was an Autumn theme. I just had to use some mini Morsels stamps that I’ve had for quite some time. There is probably 35 or so mini stamps that are all in the Autumn theme in the set. They are similar to the Rubber Stamp Tapestry sets, but these were from Sugarloaf Stamps which became Inque Boutique which was bought by Darice. Unfortunately they’ve decided to not continue the brand. At least I have the stamps!

Supplies:
Stampin’ Up! cardstock
Sugarloaf/Inque Boutique and Stampin’ Up! stamps
Tsukineko ink
Flower Soft

I already posted my December “open theme” ATC – Snowflakes – if you’d like to see it again.

The January theme was “Games or Toys”. I chose the games theme since I had some stamps to fit the bill (imagine that!). It seemed that I was sticking with the orange tones as above. Something about the game Bingo makes me think of orange. Don’t know why…

Supplies:
Stampin’ Up! cardstock

Tsukineko ink
Ranger paint dabbers
Sizzix Playground alpha dies

Do you remember that song from Styx? Ok, maybe I’m dating myself, but it was such a catchy song in a sort of mechanical way?? 😀

Here’s a simple ATC using all metallic embossing powders from P K Glitz – Gold, Silver Max and Not So Rusted Penny to be exact. All gorgeous colors and too cute for my Mr. Roboto.

Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are a fantastic way to use up pieces of paper and embellishments. Oh – and of course to use stamps on them! I’ve joined a couple swaps for ATCs and have a monthly ATC club that I belong to, so today was “make the ATCs day”. All of them are themed and have their own personality. Check them out:

One of the projects that I completed from this past weekend’s cropping was a set of ATC’s (aka Artist Trading Cards). These 2 1/2 x 3 1/2″ scraps of paper end up being some beautiful pieces of art! So much fun and I always love using my scraps and bits of leftover scrapping embellishments on them. Can’t beat it!

What do you do with them? Well, true ATC collectors do just that, collect them for trading purposes. ATC’s are NEVER sold, they are given or traded. I have been known to use them on a card front, but for the past couple of years, I’ve saved all of them in little mini mailboxes. I have quite a collection!

This month’s theme with the Oasis ATC Club that I belong to (local artists), was “Your Heritage”. Hmmmmm, that could bring a lot of different ideas out for sure! Use the colors, use images, even a map maybe? I opted for the images of the culture. Take a peek and see if you can guess:

Want to hear something really cool?? I’m starting an ATC club at Cherry Blossom Studio!!!! We’ll meet once a month to trade cards and to work on the next month’s theme. I’m really looking forward to it, so stay tuned for more details as it comes into being. Woohoo!!

I recently found a very interesting product to use in my crafting projects. Having been poking around on Rubber Stamp Chat (RSC), there was a member, wood_veneer_man, running a contest for using his wood items to stamp on and donate to a worthy cause. He even offered to send samples out to use in your art! I took him up on the offer and promptly received a nifty sample of different wood veneers thin enough to die cut or punch and veneers on paper offering a more sturdy backing for the actual projects. He had some cut into bookmarks, postcards and business card shapes! The wood ranges from light to dark and is smooth enough to stamp on, die cut, punch and cut with regular ole scissors. Pretty fun indeed. We will see much more of wood_veneer_man in the coming future, I know it!

Wood_veneer_man doesn’t have a web site or blog YET, more coming soon 😉

If you want more information, contact me and I’ll let him know you’re looking for him or contact him through RSC and tell him that I sent you.

Here is a cute ATC that was PERFECT for using the wood veneer almost like a paper piecing, instead it was a wood piecing! Stamps by Unity and Earth Elements Sod & Saffron from Art Institute.
